„Step by Step – Giving children a future“ – this was the motto of this year’s ninth consecutive Office City Run to benefit Cargo Human Care. An initiative that was launched to bring together people from the logistics industry in Frankfurt (formerly „Bürostadt“) to raise funds for the aid organization Cargo Human Care .
The initiative aims to support children in Kenya, especially orphans, and give them a better life and above all the chance of education. The proceeds from the 2023 Bürostadtlauf will now be used to build a secondary school for girls. In the long term, the girls will also have the opportunity to complete vocational training at the home in Nairobi.
This year, the run was held hybrid for the second time in a row. For the virtual part, there was a choice of running distances between 5 km and 10 km and 30 km or 50 km cycling. The starting signal for the virtual office city run was given on August 10. 1,250 athletes from all over the world took advantage of the opportunity to customize the run to suit their personal and geographical circumstances.
While some covered the distance on their own across the globe in 27 countries, Lufthansa Cargo employees in Singapore, for example, organized a 5-km charity run in East Coast Park on August 21 with about 180 participants. The „Kenyan Jumbos“ team also completed the distance together, while the team in Shanghai completed the kilometers with 100 customers against the backdrop of a rainbow.
In total, around 1,968 runners, including our CEO, Ashwin Bhat and our CFO, Frank Bauer took part in the entire event – a strong sign of solidarity and appreciation for the work of Cargo Human Care and a new record!
